Packing Made Easier

Posted on October 10, 2016

Packing can be the most difficult part about travel for many people, the stress, not enough room, questioning what you really need. When in reality packing can be made much easier when done in advance and when keeping these few helpful hints in mind. You will be able to get the most out of your bag, which in turn will save you from potential stress and allow you to get the most out of your travels!

Planning is key. Layout everything you want to bring, then cut it in half. To really understand what you will need to bring make a list with the number of days you will be gone with a short description of your trip for example: beach, camping, urban, business etc. Write down and try on a few mix-n-match outfits. The combination potential with mix-n-match clothing items can double your number of possible outfits. Research the weather in the area, download multiple weather apps and watch them in advance to see how accurate they actually are. Your idea of what the weather may be like in a certain place at a certain time may be way further off than you thought, better to find out before you leave than once you are already gone with all the wrong clothing in your bag.

Make the most of your space. Cold weather destinations are hard to pack light for. Wear your largest item (coat, scarf, boots etc.) Even if you are going to a warm weather destination the airport and plane are always cold at times bring at least one warm item and wear it on the plane so it’s not taking up space in your luggage. Pack items that are multipurpose, can be used for mix-n-match outfits, wrinkle free and choose items that layer well; in most places the morning, afternoon and nighttime temperatures can vary within 20-30 degrees so layers are your best bet for staying comfortable all day long. Shoes take up a lot of space, limit your shoes, go back to the list you made and think of the daily activities you will be doing and really ask yourself if you will need that extra pair of shoes that you probably won’t wear. Although, the shoes you do bring, don’t let them just take up space…use it! You can fit many things inside your shoes, socks, underwear, belts and accessories. Also, stay organized in your luggage instead of throwing all of your small accessories into one pocket of your luggage utilize around the house items such as toothbrush cases, eye glass cases etc. to put smaller items in, yet still keep separate to stay organized.
